Cristian Meghea, PhD, is a Red Cedar Distinguished Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Michigan State University. He is the Director and Co-Founder of the Maternal Health Lab. Dr. Meghea is a principal investigator of the Multilevel Interventions for Maternal Health and Disparities (MIRACLE) Center, one of the few national NIH-funded Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence, and the only one in Michigan. He has been leading several other studies funded by the US federal government, the State of Michigan, foundations, and international funding agencies.
Dr. Meghea leads an established program of research and evaluation to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality and disparities. The research includes randomized and pragmatic trials and observational projects to improve maternal care and health, with deep partnerships and a collaborative history in the US and internationally. The work builds on ongoing and past collaborations with community partners and the Medicaid program in Michigan and on a continuous program of data-driven maternal health population research informing and driving health policy. The community-partnered work, both in US and globally, relies on interdisciplinary team science approaches and a variety of study designs. Dr. Meghea’s expertise is in women’s health, maternal and child health, global health, health services research, and health economics. Trained as an Economist, he brings evaluation and data analysis expertise to his field of research.
