Inaugural National HPV Conference

Summary

The inaugural National HPV Conference was held in April 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), American Cancer Society (ACS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with support from related partners. The conference was attended to capacity and drew HPV and cancer prevention researchers, clinicians, and public health professionals from across the country.

Three Michigan State University College of Human Medicine students were selected to present their research at the conference, with mentorship from Sabrina Ford, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology, and Director of Health Quality and Equity at the Institute for Health Policy.

  • Taylor Lombard (M4) delivered an oral presentation on the influence of TikTok content on perceptions of the HPV vaccine. Taylor intends to pursue a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Tylar Dickson and Lanah Almatroud (M3s) presented their research examining the relationship between education level, insurance status, and cervical cancer screening rates.

Presentations were well received, with particular recognition for their relevance to adolescent and underserved populations. As a result, Taylor Lombard was invited to present her work at both the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) meeting in Maryland (July 2025) and the New York State HPV Coalition convening in May 2025.
