Funded by a $1.5 million grant, the MI CARES program, or Michigan Collaborative Addiction Resources and Education System, is a partnership between Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and Spectrum Health. With fewer than 200 physicians in Michigan certified in addiction medicine, MI CARES will help to address the state’s need by educating providers on how to successfully enter the specialty of Addiction Medicine by 2021. This streamline process will help physicians identify practice hours and responsibilities in their current roles to meet requirements for Addiction Medicine certification as well as provide Addiction Medicine core content for the board exam.
The grant is supported by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services opioid response fund.
