OB/GYN DIVISION OF MEDICAL EDUCATIONObstetricians-gynecologists provide specialty care for women and also serve as primary preventive care physicians for over one half of women in the United States. Within the specialty area of practice, these physicians provide care to pregnant women and to women with gynecologic issues.
As primary preventive care physicians, they assume responsibility for primary-preventive health care, including screening testing, counseling, health promotion and patient education, behavioral intervention, an/or consultation to address the major causes of morbidity and mortality in women. Thus it is paramount for these practitioners to understand the wide range of issues encompassed by the primary preventive health care responsibility as well as the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology.
