Research

The Research Division of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology is committed to promoting excellence in research and scholarship by our faculty, residents and students in the areas of women¹s health and maternal/infant health. The Department recognizes that biomedical research is an essential role of the medical school that contributes to the University, to the scientific and medical professions, and to society. Research enhances faculty development, the training of physicians, and improves the quality of life of people, families and communities. Through the research process our faculty become experts and leaders in their field, as well as enhancing their ability to provide the highest quality state-of-the-art care to their patients.

While the home base of the Research Division is on the East Lansing campus, MSU-CHM is a university-based and community integrated medical school with clinical campuses in 6 different communities across the state. Thus, the Department has over 300 faculty across the state. In addition to our East Lansing and Lansing faculty, many community faculty are also involved in their own research or in collaborative projects spanning communities. Through this system of communities and community faculty our research program has the ability to access large populations of subjects.

The mission of the Research Division is to:

  • Conduct research on important and timely topics that contribute to knowledge, prevention and treatment in the fields of women's health and maternal/infant health.
  • Promote collaborative research by bringing investigators together across disciplines, colleges, and communities. This includes a particular emphasis on collaborations with our community-based faculty.
  • Provide faculty development in research and enhance the training of Ob/Gyn residents and medical students through research training and experience.
  • Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise with other faculty, with the scientific and medical profession, and with the larger society.
  • Improve, through research, the quality of care to our patients and the health and well being of our communities.
