The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at the College of Human Medicine-MSU hosted this year The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) Annual Junior Fellow Research Day at the James B. Henry Center on May 27th. Over 80 residents and faculty from the MSU Residency Network (AOGRN) and other institutions across Michigan participated, among them:, William Beaumont Hospital, Wayne State University, St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center, Sparrow Health System, St. John Providence Hospital, University of Michigan and Hurley Medical Center. Dr. Richard Leach, ACOG; Junior Fellow Advisor and Dr. Kristi Mixer, Junior Fellow Chairperson for the Michigan Section hosted the event.

A total of 20 Oral presentations and 15 Poster presentations were given during the event.

Excellence Awards along with a money award were given to the highest scores for oral and posters presentations.

Divya Kelath Shah, MD, University of Michigan; Anthony Imudia, MD, Wayne State University; Kristen Salmeen, MD, University of Michigan; and Melissa Andrzejak, MD, Williams Beaumont Hospital received first, second, third and fourth places for best Oral presentations.

Helard Ballon-Hennings, MD, Wayne State University; Mamta Kulkami, MD, Hurley Medical Center, and Amber McLean, MD, Sparrow Health System, received the award for best Poster presentations.

Dr. Cynthia Brincat, MD, PhD and Kindra Larson, MD, both from University of Michigan received the Fellow Awards.

Dr. Sonia Hassan, MD was the invited speaker for the event. Dr. Hassan is an Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Advanced Obstetrical Care and Research, Perinatology Research Branch/NICHD/NIH/DHHS, at Wayne State University and Hutzel Women’s Hospital. Dr. Hassan’s lecture was titled "Excellence and Achievement in Academic Medicine: How Do We Get There?". Her lecture provided contemporary insight to developing a career in Academic Medicine in today’s environment. A banquet reception followed the event to welcome all members of the MSU-CHM Affiliated Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Network (MSU-CHM AOGRN).
